Computer problems are going to happen and its normally at the worst possible time.
Computers, laptops and tablets are more reliable then they were, they are also relied upon a lot more. Start by removing the need to have your work tied to one computer. Most of us have access to more than one computer; at work have the computers set up with the same software that everyone in the office uses. At home install common software on your partner's computer. For all this to work your data needs to be stored in the cloud. Google, Microsoft and other companies offer great cloud storage with common office-based software included. Use an online accounting package or place an up-to-date backup on the cloud. Talk to us about making this happen and even setting up a backup computer ready to go.
Tony has 15 years experience with FoxPro and Visual FoxPro.
If you have the source code, it can be modified to your requirements.
Data is relatively easy to extract from Visual FoxPro but then what. If you have a system to replace the VFP application talk to the application provider about importing your VFP data or talk to us, we can extract your data into a common format to be imported into the new application.
Note: If the VFP data is encrypted it cannot be extracted. The replacement application has to support data import or use a common storage data type.

Need to change your WiFi key? If you've been using the same WiFi since... forever, it might be time to change it and reattach all of your devices. Some routers support push-button-connect making it very easy to reattach devices.
Note: Vulnerabilities have been found with WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) PIN connect, use push-button-connect if your router supports it.
Another WiFi security flaw has been found - WPA2 krack. For some light reading see Wikipedia. In short, all WiFi devices using WPA2 need to have the latest security updates installed. Some phones may not have updates ready until late November.
Before selling or disposing of those unused computers have a think about the information they may contain.
Reformatting a hard drive is thought to be a solution to cleaning out information. However, formatting does not always clear out all the data there is on a hard drive. If you do choose to format a drive select the option to do a full format.
You can also elect to encrypt your entire hard drive. Pick a strong encryption key. Although it may be a better option then reformating, the data is not removed at all. If the encryption key is guessed all of the information is made available.
The best option is to use software which securely erases or wipes a hard drive. These sorts of software write random information to the entire drive multiple times.
Before you wipe your hard disk drive of all the data it contains, back it up first, you won’t be able to recover it.
